A Tale of Two Cities Characterization Project

Jarvis Lorry      Jerry Cruncher     Lucie Manette     Monsieur Defarge     Madame Defarge

Miss Pross          Doctor Manette     Sydney Carton     Charles Darnay

Follow the link above to the page for YOUR assigned character, then:

Find and write down a quotation of characterization from Book the Second about your character, noting the chapter.  Write both the quotation and what you think it shows us about the character.  Remember that a quotation does not have to be dialogue, but can illustrate your character in the following ways:

Direct characterization

·         Telling us directly what the character is like (timid, generous, pleasant, and so on)

Indirect characterization

·         Describing how the character looks and dresses

·         Letting us hear the character speak

·         Letting us listen to the character’s inner thoughts and feelings

·         Revealing what other people think or say about the character

·         Showing the character’s actions

"This is how we edit."  This shows Mrs. Loughry loves to edit!  (Chapter 2) - Mrs. Loughry
